Happy National Hummus Day!
That’s right – this Friday the 13th has been redeemed by a celebration across the land of that chickpea-based dip and spread I love on just about everything–including my tongue.
Not that I need a holiday dedicated to the recognition of all things hummus to go to town on it. I regularly indulge. Though you can hardly call it an indulgence, with each 2-Tablespoon serving of Sabra Classic Hummus providing 2 grams of protein, 2 grams of fiber (that’s 8% of your recommended daily value!), and only sets you back 70 calories. (Who am I kidding? 2 Tablespoons? More like half the tub…)
If you haven’t tried hummus before, National Hummus Day is the perfect occasion. Hop on over to Sabra‘s website to score a coupon, drive to your favorite grocery store, and pick up a tub…or three. Then make it a hummus night. Prep some Roasted Garlic Hummus Bruschetta Crostini. Bake up a Spinach and Artichoke Hummus Pull Apart Bread. Toss together an Olive Tapenade Hummus Pasta Salad. So many great ways to have an entirely hummus-themed evening!
My new favorite? The Unofficial Meal.
You may recall me mentioning it last month with my Pepperoni Pizza Hummus dip. The Unofficial Meal is a chance to take those in-between moments in life and savor them. To monopolize on family gathering around the kitchen island and make the most of it. Everyone’s happy. Nobody’s starving. And Sabra hummus makes it super easy to accomplish this.
Expanding on The Unofficial Meal idea, I bring you another great topping that’s quick and easy to throw together, making it a cinch to replicate night after night. I started with my favorite flavor, Caramelized Onion with Smoked Paprika, and sprinkled over that chopped kalamata olives, canned mushrooms, and feta cheese. Then I finished it off with a drizzle of balsamic reduction. If you like balsamic vinegar, you will LOVE balsamic reduction. I am always seeking excuses to add a drizzle of it here and there, and it pairs so perfectly with caramelized onions. Now all you need are some vehicles for getting that hummus into your mouth and VOILÁ! The Unofficial Meal is served!
If you’re not a fan of canned mushrooms, fresh work well, too. Me? I support simplifying my life. This checks all those boxes.
May your National Hummus Day be filled with hummus-y treats!
