I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again–cooking on weeknights can be challenging. After the long drive home, I don’t always feel like investing in a big, drawn-out meal. It helps on days like today when I come home to a table that’s already set and a daughter eager to help, but that doesn’t happen every day. That’s when the arsenal of 30-minute meals comes in handy. And the one I have for you today is mostly inactive time, so you can do something else while it cooks. Me? I was lucky enough to wash the dishes the kids made before I got home. Because that’s how I roll.
I’m happy to be partnering with GE Appliances’ Weeknight Kitchen campaign today and helping them further their quest to bring more families together around the table. Why save it all for supper on Sunday? Yes, we have busy lives, and yes, there are a million other things we could be doing, but if we would just make that time to sit down with our families and actually talk–and eat–together, even for just 30 minutes a day, just think how much happier everyone would be. I love this campaign!
Now, if I had a new GE Appliances dishwasher with their exclusive 102-jet cleaning system, tonight I could have spent more time with my family reading books out loud or talking about our days. I certainly wouldn’t have spent 20 minutes hand washing! The time savings doesn’t end there. Of course, there’s the after dinner dishes. What a breeze that would be! Just pop the dirty dishes in the dishwasher and leave the hard work to it!
Speaking of saving time, have you checked out the GE Appliances new Double Oven Ranges with Tri Ring Burners? Thanks to the double oven, you can bake multiple dishes at one time at different temperatures without having to rip a hole in your wall for a wall-mounted unit. AND the Tri Ring burner allows you to use multiple sized pots and pans on the same burner–no fighting over certain burners for certain sizes! It’s convenient and it’ll make dinner preparation a snap!
I’ve been playing around on The Kitchen Reimagined and I have a confession to make: I’ve fallen in love with GE Appliances French Door Refrigerator! Not only is it gorgeous to look at, but the hands-free, auto-filled filtered water–the first refrigerator in its class to boast this feature–makes it even easier to get dinner on the table. One less button to push! I know my current refrigerator has cold spots where it freezes things (eggs and celery, in particular). There’s nothing worse than grabbing your ingredients for your meal and finding they’re ruined. GE Appliances has solved that problem with TwinChill evaporators, ensuring nothing freezes unless you want it to. No more last-minute panic attacks due to destroyed produce!
Tonight’s 30-minute meal consisted of Brats with Onions and Peppers cooked in beer. Yup, a little bit of beer to give it a whole lot of flavor! You throw everything in your enameled cast iron pan, cover, and bake for 25 minutes. Then you finish off the Brats in a skillet to give them that nice, crunchy layer on the outside that’s just so satisfying to bite into. Mmmm! No fussing at the stove, so your time is your own to do with as you please. Steam some veggies and you’ll have a complete meal in no time at all!
