Fall is the season of get-togethers. What’s a girl to do when she wants to stand out among all the other fabulous fetes being thrown? Have a plan, of course!
Start planning as soon as possible for your party–at this time of year, in particular, you need to give your guests a lot of notice so they can be sure to get you on their calendars and not miss out on all the fun! A month’s notice is good, but if you think your chosen dates may fill up fast, 5-6 weeks’ notice would be better. Your guests will appreciate reminders along the way to your special day, so keep them in the loop. You’ll be doing everyone a favor!
The old motto to K.I.S.S. (Keep It Simple, Stupid) is a great thing to call into action. Far too often, I’ve overwhelmed myself by trying to do too much. It’s okay if you don’t make everything from scratch. You don’t need to perfectly coordinate your plates, napkins, forks, cups, etc. This should be a time of celebration–of reconnecting with old friends and making new ones. If you’re in a tizzy because some tiny detail didn’t work out the way you planned, you won’t be able to enjoy your big event. Don’t sweat the small stuff–be present and enjoy the fruits of your labor!
Along the lines of simplicity, selecting a few drink recipes for your guests and stocking the bar with these supplies will go a long way in keeping your sanity. The first time I threw a party, I tried to have a bottle of every possible bit of booze someone may possibly want. And beer. And white wine. And red wine. And wine coolers. And cola. And root beer… you get the picture. It was too much and people were overwhelmed by the options. So much was leftover after the party and we were stuck with it after. I did nobody a service with my over-attention to detail. Supplies for a few special drinks, water, and a couple sodas will be more than sufficient.
What should your bar look like? That depends on you, your guests, and your personalities. I like to offer something familiar with a twist, like these Kahlúa Moonshine Martinis. Everybody knows Kahlúa and they’ve all had a martini before, but what about with moonshine? Like vodka, it has a clean flavor that mixes well, making it a great step-in here to bring a standard martini to the next level. Your guests will surely love it!
Now you’re ready to party! Get out there and have a good time–you’ve earned it!
