Mother’s Day is next Sunday and in honor of Mom, I have joined a group of food bloggers in celebrating #BrunchWeek, providing ideas for how you can make mom’s day super special. I’ll be posting today, Wednesday, and Saturday, but others will be filling the calendar with lots of yummy treats, so you’ll want to visit them, too.
To start out, I have a simple margarita recipe for you. Because why should mimosas corner the market on morning cocktails? A margarita is perfect any time of day–after all, citrus is good for you, right?! Cheers!
Margarita for Mama
Ingredients
- cubed ice
- 1 1/2 ounces Espolon reposado tequila
- 1/2 ounce Triple Sec
- 1/2 ounce agave nectar
- 1 ounce freshly squeezed lime juice from 1-2 limes
- leftover lime rind leftover from squeezing the juice, of course
- Maldon flaky sea salt
Instructions
- Fill a cocktail shaker with ice.
- Pour the tequila, Triple Sec, agave, and lime juice over the ice in the cocktail shaker, then cover and shake vigorously for 20 seconds.
- Take a margarita glass and rub the wet side of the leftover lime rind over the rim.
- Spread the Maldon flaky sea salt around the edge of a small plate and dip the prepared glass in it, coating the rim.
- Fill glass with ice and pour the shaken margarita over it.
- Keep them coming.

Such a fun Sunday and love your margarita! I love Bellinis for brunch – not to strong, plus I can customize them with whatever fruit puree I’m craving!
You’re right–no need to go heavy with the alcohol here. Something light and refreshing that uplifts is perfect. Bellinis work well for that!

my favorite brunch dish is chilaquiles, which would be perfect accompanied by this dreamy margarita!
Now that’s a new one to me–I had to look them up and now I’m starving after looking at all those scrumptious photos! Yes, a margarita would be the perfect pairing!
My favorite is French Toast with pure maple syrup.
French Toast is pretty fantastic, isn’t it? On Saturday I will have a version that is sure to please!
I would totally drink a margarita with brunch. What a perfect post for both BrunchWeek and Cinco de Mayo.
It’s a double-hitter! 🙂 I figure why not have a margarita with brunch? It has fruit. It works.
Wow….what an amazing contest…but I must say that I am MOST excited about that margarita recipe!!! Wow. I am 26 wks pregnant, and I missed not drinking a margarita today quite a bit.
(btw – your picture was awesome…put the hurt in a bit more!!!)
Aw, but it’s so worth the sacrifice. And next year you can have *2* because I said so! 🙂
Such a great recipe, just look at that drink. Love the rim, I always love when cocktails have shnazzy rims.
Thank you! Simple yet elegant. 🙂

Oh wow–love everything about this recipe. Love me a good marg!
Great idea, a Margarita for brunch!
Isn’t it? It has fruit juice–it works just fine. 😉
mmmmm a “from scratch” margarita! Nice, I love the photos too!
My husband had to travel to Mexico for work recently. He came back and told me all the ways I was “doing it wrong.” Ha! I vowed that I would figure out how to make a margarita without the mix.
My mom only likes margaritas if you cannot tell there is anything but juice in them, haha. This is a great base recipe though, I’d have to load it with strawberry syrup or something. I love that your mom likes margaritas though!
Well I know that *I* like margaritas and I’m a mom, so at least my day will be special. 😉 It is a good base recipe to tweak to your liking.
Woohoo! It isn’t that easy to get a good margarita mix here in the UK so now I know how to make my own.
Toss the mix and make it from scratch! Enjoy!
I love this recipe!! Great giveaway!!
Thank you! This giveaway is purely awesome, isn’t it? I kind of wish I was eligible. But I’m not, because that wouldn’t be fair to my readers. Good luck!
My mom would die of sheer joy if I made her margaritas in bed.
The perfect way to spend Mother’s Day! Enjoy celebrating her!
Ahhh…I feel like EVERY week should be BRUNCH WEEK! (alas that it can not be!) I like how you wrote “Mom deserves a margarita…or two” My wife would agree 🙂
I agree! Brunch every day, all the time! Make sure you provide your wife with those margaritas–I’m sure she deserves them!
