…or how I screwed up this month.
Because you’re probably scratching your head right now, wondering where delicious photos of royal icing-adorned treats are. It is the first of the month, after all. There should be a new post today!
Sadly, February became a comedy of errors, one thing after another derailing me from my purpose. My winter (second) job let up about halfway through the month, but the house hunting was kicked into full gear. In six weeks’ time, we looked at twenty of them. Yes, twenty. And when we finally found one we liked, we received some terrible news about my grandmother’s health. Between running around signing contracts and other papers–then signing revised versions of the same papers–we were squeezing in visits to Grandma (and I started up physical therapy again for my foot drop issue). It’s been more than a little crazy around here.

our future oven/range?
The month ended with a home inspection of what was supposed to be our future domicile… and discovering that the leachfield failed to pass the test. The house needs a new septic system. Cha-ching! We don’t even know if we’re getting the house now or not.
Instead of royal icing, I have a royal pain in the heiny. Ouch.
It’s no excuse, but it’s where I’m at. At least the others in our First on the First quest managed to pull it together and make some royal icing for your enjoyment! Next month, if you think you’d like to join us, we’ll be making pretzels. I promise, I will be a part of that–there will be no stopping me! In the meantime…
This month’s Royal Icing…

Oh Carrie, I am so sorry. I hope April is a better month for you and that your Grandma’s is doing better.
Thank you for the kind words. Hoping things are much better this month, too!
Sorry to hear you had such a crazy month. But I am looking forward to pretzels. That sounds fin, and something I have wanted to try. Hmm, maybe I can make some and freeze them to save for my little guy’s baseball-themed 2nd birthday party.
I bet pretzels would freeze well! In fact, don’t they sell frozen ones in the grocery store? Should be a fun challenge!
What a crazy month – piddling with royal icing might have put you right over the edge 🙂 Hope things turn out as hoped for both your grandmother and your house hunt!
I’m pretty sure royal icing would have been the last straw last month. Taking some time to breath and get perspective was more important.
What an insane month! Hope things are looking up for you. Looking forward to pretzels next month!
Indeed! I need to get back in the kitchen, for my sanity’s sake! Pretzels will be so much fun!!
