It’s very unlike me to disappear for a week like that. Especially at a prime time for sharing recipes! But a break I needed, and so I took a break, sitting back and re-examining the direction the blog has taken.
The thing is, while I love writing this, and I love baking, and I even love taking photos, I don’t always love doing all three with every treat I bake. This blog was supposed to be a way for me to share my food journey, but it had become an obligation that I was beginning to resent. I have terrible lighting inside my house and dragging everything outside to capture it was growing quite tedious–especially when coupled with rejections from the major food porn sites, after all that hassle.
The truth of the matter is that I need to slow down a bit, for several reasons. One is that I’m eating too much of this good stuff and my waistline is showing it. Another is that I’ve become a bit of a slave to the computer instead of spending quality time with my family, which should be first on the list. Lastly, because I am transitioning from a stay-at-home mom for the last five years to a mom who works outside the home full-time. There simply isn’t enough time for me to do all that I want to do and not feel frazzled by it.
I have some posts in the works, including a First on the First with Food Babbles. So sit tight: I’m not going anywhere, baby!! But I do need to stop getting caught up in the numbers, the pageviews, the likes, etc. and get back to basics here. So yeah, there may not be as many posts per month as there were before. I do expect, however, a better level of quality. Quality > Quantity.
This blogging thing is a lot of work. I’m with ya sista, 100%. Don’t worry, we’ll still be here even if your posts are not as many. & best of luck in your new adventure: the 9-5 grind π
Thanks! It will be an adventure for sure!
I agree with you, blogging is a lot of work! I took a break when I started a new job because I just didn’t have time nor the inspiration to bake/cook/photograph/edit/write/publish/tweet… If blogging isn’t a fun activity it’s best to take a break or slow down. What’s the point of doing all this if you’re not enjoying it?
Good luck on your new job, hope we can catch up on twitter π xoxo
Exactly. It’s so hard to give ourselves permission to back off sometimes though. Glad to see people understand!
You’re still in my sidebar, so whenever you post something new, I’ll stop by to check it out. You do good work! Now take some time for you. π
Aw, thanks! That means a lot to me! π
You know what is funny…I went through something similar this summer. I found that the more I regimented myself, the less I enjoyed it, the less I blogged. I let go of the rules I imposed on myself and I am loving it again π
Good luck on your life changes darling!
Sometimes, we just have to give ourselves permission to do what works best for us. You had a transition this summer, too. Thanks for the well wishes! π
