I’m all for holidays that make excuses to drink tequila. Like today–Cinco de Mayo. The “Mexican” holiday that isn’t celebrated by most Mexicans in Mexico. And no, it’s not their Independence Day either.
Still, my heart just wasn’t in the celebration this year. When I should have been jonsing for tacos and nachos, all I wanted was pasta and fresh Italian bread. I’m so not good at this. Margaritas, however, are always a good idea.
I never buy the margarita mix because I think it’s a rip off. You can achieve similar results using limeade, and that’s good enough for me. No need to fuss too much when you’re trying to get your buzz on.
¡Feliz Cinco de Mayo! Cheers!
Cheata’ Margarita
- 1 oz Triple Sec (or your favorite orange liquor)
- 1.5 oz tequila
- 4 oz limeade (I prefer Newman’s Own)
- 2 slices lime
- flaky sea salt
- ice cubes
Rub a slice of lime along the rim of a margarita glass. Pour some flaky sea salt along the edge of a dish and dip the rim of the glass in it.
Drop some ice cubes into bar mixing glass. Pour over them the Triple Sec, tequila, and limeade and shake vigorously. Strain into the prepared margarita glass. Cut a slit into the remaining lime slice and garnish the glass with it.
Makes 1 drink.
yum!!!
