Festively-attired artists gathered last night at Artwell in Torrington to raise money for relocation of the small gallery to Main Street. Delicious food, some wine, and an inspired musical performance by participants were shared by all, surrounded by twinkling Christmas lights and the current Illegitimate Offspring of Da Da show pieces. Those who were not able to make it to the event can still contribute through their website.
It was nice putting names to faces. I recently became involved in Artwell despite living within close proximity to it for years. Their existing location on Water Street is easy to miss, set back from a road that many people avoid if they can. Relocation will be key to their continued survival in difficult times ahead. Luckily, Torrington has become a sort of center for the arts in Litchfield County–the perfect backdrop for the gallery. Here’s to their continued success!
If funds are short, there are other ways you can help out. The gallery is pretty much entirely run by volunteers. They can always use people to gallery sit: you sign up for a 2.5-hour slot in which you’ll be keeping the gallery open so that people can actually come in and see what’s up on the walls. It’s not very demanding, the time slots are short, and you’ll be doing your part, actively taking a role in their success. There are other committees as well if you’re not able to make the time commitment. Every little bit helps!
