I’m not the first blogger to wax poetic about how fantastic Rocket Fine Street Food is (CT Scenic and 60b Photography, for example, have both beaten me to the punch), but it’s worth repeating. If you haven’t checked them out yet, you should–you won’t regret it.
The idea is simple: homemade, fresh food that is food. No high fructose corn syrup or trans fat, locally-sourced when possible, and eternally delicious. The menu varies from day to day, though there are some stand-bys like the grilled cheese (which is not your standard grilled cheese, featuring gruyere and dijon on multigrain bread from Collinsville Baking Company) and chocolate cookies (available with or without almonds). The green chile cheeseburger is phenomenal, with naturally-raised beef, Monterey jack and Colby cheeses, and a tingly green chile topping that is out of this world. I recommend not adding ketchup or mustard, but I’m a purist. You really can’t go wrong with whatever you choose and frites are a MUST.
The latest schedule shows them at Oddo Print Shop on East Main Street in Torrington on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 11:30AM to 3PM and at the UCONN Torrington Campus on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:30AM to 1:30PM (heading to Oddo’s afterward until 3PM). UCONN night students get lucky, as they return there on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:30 to 6:30PM. They also grace the Farmer’s Market on Saturdays in downtown Torrington.
You may want to check their website for their latest menu (updated daily) as well as any changes in their hours. Then get your butt down to their truck for some Rocket fuel–and you’ll surely be as hooked as our family is!
Note: Rocket Fine Street Food has since relocated to Providence, Rhode Island.
