Review: eShakti Is The Answer

I’ve sung the praises of eShakti to my friends many times before–now it’s time I tell you all about my (not so well-kept) secret. Because a dress that fits well makes a world of difference. Thank you, eShakti, for sending me this dress for review purposes. As always, all opinions remain my own.

Poet in the Pantry reviews eShakti - once you go customized, you'll never go back!Fashion is not my forte. Food, yes. Highly fashionable clothes, no. Partially because of my love for food–I’ll admit that. But also because there is so little I can find that looks good and fits well, too. It’s just not even worth the effort, most of the time. Why bother flipping through rack after rack of ugly, unflattering clothing when the fruitless labor will make me find solace in a pint of ice cream? I’ll just keep wearing what I’m wearing.

That is, until I made the discovery of a lifetime.

Late last spring, I placed my first eShakti order. I was nervous at first. You never quite know what you’ll get when you order clothes sight-unseen. But they offered the option to customize the fit for only $7.50 more and it seemed a bargain to me to be guaranteed that my garment would be made to my own odd dimensions. That it would be custom cut, just for me. What did I have to lose?

Those who have met me know that this experiment quickly blossomed into a full-on love affair.

Once you start customizing your clothing, it’s difficult to buy off the rack again. eShakti makes it just so easy! Just a few measurements entered into their system (which they will save for you, so you don’t have to keep entering them over and over again) and you know whatever you select will be perfect for you!

You simply visit your order page in your account and click on “return.” Then you print out your return form, package up the item, and ship it back to them. If you elect to have your refund given in a store credit, they will add on 20% to your refund value. That’s a heck of a guarantee that you’ll be happy with your purchase!

I contacted eShakti recently and asked them if I could review a dress for the blog. Considering I had been asked repeatedly at blogging events where I got my dresses, it seemed right to finally let the cat out of the bag and share the skinny. (Oh, the clichés! My English professors would be pulling out the red pens right now!)

eShakti Pleat Neck Bird Print Dress

So here’s the deal: this time around, I selected the Pleat Neck Bird Print Dress (I have this thing for birds–I can’t help it!). I shortened the length of this dress to above the knee (most of my other eShakti dresses are below the knee, a comfortable length for me that is–YAY!–longer than most dresses I can find elsewhere) and used my custom measurements. I placed the order on January 17, 2015. eShakti tells you that orders will typically arrive in 14 business days (18 calendar days) from receipt of order. In my experience, they usually arrive quicker than this, but it’s good to know that you do need to plan ahead a bit, especially if you’re shopping for a special occasion. This sample order arrived on January 28, 2015–AND it was held up a day by the snow storm last week. Around the same time, I had a non-review order in with eShakti that I placed on January 10, 2015, and that arrived on January 21, 2015. So, as you can see, they are typically quite prompt in delivering the goods. Which is amazing, considering this is a made-for-you product!

No concerns about cheapo, see-through fabric here, despite the light color! The lining is the perfect weight for warmer weather apparel, while still providing modesty. The ribbons of fabric accenting the hem are a cute touch, showing the attention to detail put into this piece! It hits above the knee, like I requested, and the style is quite figure flattering. And it fits like a glove–like it was made for me! Time and time again, this has been my experience with eShakti. It’s why I keep going back for more!

Wait… you can return the customized dresses?

    1. You can! If there’s anything you don’t like about your order, you can return it for a refund (minus the customization charges). If I recall correctly, you get 2 chances after that to get it right. So, for example, I returned a dress (I never should have ordered) and elected store credit, so I got the dress value + 20% back as a store credit. I applied that credit to another order and also didn’t like that dress. I was able to return that one, too, but only for the dress value; you can’t keep adding on that 20%. The next order I placed, I would have to keep. Luckily, I loved it, so it didn’t matter. You do lose out on customization charges, but it’s good to know they’ll stand by their product. And considering I now own 12 of their dresses (11 of which I paid for myself), I have to say that I’m quite smitten. They usually hit the mark just fine. 🙂

I was on their site recently and couldn’t believe the inexpensive customization. Yay!

        1. I know, right? For the price, why wouldn’t you have it custom-made?!

  2. Very cool, thank you for sharing!

  3. You are stunning! This dress is great, I’ve been seeing you post about them for a while now, I need to order something asap.

    1. Thank you! 🙂 And yes, you do need to order!

  4. Love the dress! I bow to you for taking those photos, I would have turned blue and cried (I don’t do cold) 😀

    1. …and then my daughter ran off with my jacket, which I was using between takes. Eek! Luckily, that wool shawl was warmer than it looks, but yes, it was a chilling experience. 🙂

  5. love, love, love eshakti!! seriously, they are the best!

  6. Love the customization features.

I hate, hate, hate my knees and there are so few dresses that cover them.

I should also mention I hate, hate, hate my arms, so the ability to have long sleeves and longer hem length is a win-win!

    1. And that’s the beauty of eShakti! You make it what makes you happy! 🙂 There’s nothing like getting it your way!

I remember one of your bird dresses at Big Harvest Potluck! This is a great feature for every type of body. On me, dresses are never long enough and almost always too small in the bust/rib cage if they are a fitted dress. I love the customization feature. I’ll take advantage of this discount too! Thanks for posting Carrie!

  7. Wow! I haven’t heard of this site before but I’m hustling my butt over right now!

    1. YES! Get right on it!

I recently ordered three dresses for the buy 2, get 1 free sale. All three were made other than I custom ordered. I am so disappointed. I am having to pay $25 plus tax to fix the one, trying to return the other one, and wearing the other one with a T-shirt underneath, since they didn’t put sleeves on it. (I read this company is bad to work with, that’s why I’m doing it this way). I’m glad you have had success with them.

    1. Oh, no! I’m so sorry you’ve had this experience! I’ve purchased at least 15 dresses from them myself now and I did have to send 2 back because they didn’t fit right (and got refunded right away for them), but the vast majority have been perfect. That’s really frustrating!
